This was my lunch today.Couple of years ago my dad had told me many recipes using Oats.he said he read in some tamil magazine.since then day i started using oats for making  Curd oats(yummy),lemon oats samabar oats(yummy),  upma (yummy)and  oats idly(yummy),  but never occurred to me to write these in my blog....( no idea why!!?? may be just because i have already written about idly??? may be ...)until recently couple of my friends asked if they can do umpa with oats.So here it is for those friends. will soon try to post other varieties too(after i finish the posts that are waiting in my queue hehehee)

Oats(whole oats/regular oats )-l cup
Water-to sprinkle
Oil-1 tbs
Urad dhal-1/4 tsp
Channa dhal-1/4 tsp
Onion-1/4 cup(approximately) finely chopped
Ginger-1 small piece finely chopped
Curry leaf- few
 Chopped Carrot,Capsicum,Beans,Spring onion or any vegetable of choice-1/2 cup approximately.
Salt to taste
Green or red chilli to taste

1)Dry fry oats till aroma comes and keep aside.
2)Heat oil in a pan separately add mustard and add urad and channa dhal after mustard splutters.Add ginger, chilli and curry leaf and saute for few minutes.
3)Add chopped (thinly)vegetables and salt and cook covered in medium flame for few minutes.
4)Add oats to this and sprinkle little water ,cover and cook for 8-9 minutes(occasionally sprinkle water )till oats becomes soft.But do not add more water as it will become soggy.
Serve hot with  or without Hot chutney .



The recipes have been tasted and liked by my family and friends .Some Ingredients amount might be approximate in some recipes, which i mostly mention.Plz adjust the ingredients like spice and salt according to taste.I will be Happy to clear any doubts .and very happy to hear the feed back, which will help me improve my blog.
