This south Indian speciality snack gets its name from its look..'Mullu' meaning spikes/thorns.Usually this type of murukku are common in villages in Tamilnadu.My amma used and grand ma used to make this but i usually prefer white murukku or pottu kadalai murukku since its easy ,tasty and crispy.But this time for a change I tried Mullu murukku and it came out really good.The measurements as what my amma had given me.
INGREDIENTS:
Raw rice flour-1 cup
Green gram flour-1/2 cup(Dry fry and powder)
Gram flour-1/2 cup
Asefotida- 1/4 tsp
Salt - to taste
Chilli powder-to taste(optional)
Jeera- 1tsp
Til/sesame seed-1 tsp
Butter-4 tbs( or can also use hot oil)
Oil- for frying
METHOD:
1)Dry fry green gram ,powder and sieve.
2)Mix this with rice flour, gram flour and salt, jeera, til and chilli powder.
3)Mix butter or hot oil to this flour mixture.
4)Add water to make a soft dough.
5) Mean while heat oil in a pan .
6)Fill murukku make with the dough.(use star mould)
7)When oil is hot enough squeeze the murukku in the oil.
8) When golden brown remove and when cool store in air tight container.
