Indian Gooseberry or nellikaai/amla is very rich in Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Potassium and Manganese . In Indian traditional medicine its used to treat various disease including diabetes and hair fall.
I have tasted Gooseberry pickle and jam but not rice..It was new when my mil said about this...Fortunately i was able to get frozen gooseberry and Guess what?.....Gooseberry rice...
INGREDIENTS:
Gooseberry-7 big
Salt- to taste
Chilli powder -to taste
Oil- i prefer gingely oil
Mustard-seasoning
Asefotida- 1 pinch
Turmeric powder-1 pinch
Fenugreek powder-1 pinch
Rice cooked
METHOD:
1)Pressure cook gooseberry(i felt this was much easier to grind)and grind.
2)Heat oil in pan and season with fenugreek, mustard and asefotida.
3)Add ground gooseberry, salt,Turmeric powder and chilli powder and cook till the raw smell of chilli disappears.
4)Add cooked rice and mix well.
Serve with chips or curry...
