Channa masala.... what to say about this tasty dish... guess even a kid knows about this in India.channa has a special taste. Any thing made with channa tastes good, though i wouldn't say its that good for health...Yeah... its rich in protein and all the stuff but it causes too much gastric problem.But once a while wont hurt right....
This dish is one among the favorites of my father in law and my hubby.
Kabuli channa/ chick pea/ garbanzo- 1cup
Tomato - 1 big chopped
Onion - 1 chopped
Ginger - garlic paste-1tbs
Kasuri methi -1tsp
Garam masala or Channa masala-1tbs
Amchur-1/4 tsp(optional. don't have to use if channa masala is used)
Chilli powder- to taste
Green chilli-3 or 4
Cumin seed- 1 tsp
Whole masala(cinnamon, clove ) 2 or 3 optional
Lime- 1/2 optional
1)Soak channa over for 6 or 7 hours.And pressure cook it well.
2)Heat oil in a pan and add whole masala( i dont like adding . its optional)add jeera and kasuri methi.
3)Add onion and saute till light brown.
4)Add ginger garlic paste and saute well ,till nice aroma comes.
5)Add green chilli and saute.6)Add tomatoes and salt and saute till tomatoes mashes.
7)Add chilli powder(if prefered) garamasala and amchur( don't have to add amchur if channa masala is used)
8)Saute well till oil ozes out.
9)Add channa masala water and birng it to boil.
10)Add channa and let it cook.
Garnish with coriander and serve with poori or paratha.
NOTE:I like to add 1 or 2 tablespoon of ground channa.I feel this gives more taste to the gravy and also makes it bit thick.
