This is actually our favourite tiffin . But my telugu neighbours say its their snack ... so i really dont know to which catagory i should put this in.Anyway..this is very very simple , easy and tasty dish.Actually we do this in two different ways. The only difference would be the texture of the batter. My telugu friends aslo call this as uppuma balls.
INGREDIENTS:
Rice flour or raw rice soaked and ground to coarse batter
Salt-to taste
Oil-seasoning
Mustard-seasoning
Urad dhal-seasoning
Coconut(small pieces)-seasoning
Cashew-seasoning
Asefotida-seasoning
Curry leaf-seasoning
Green chilli-seasoning
METHOD:
1)If using rice flour :-Dry fry rice flour in hot pan till aroma comes and mix with enough water to make a thin batter.
If using raw rice:- soak it for 5 hrs and grind coarsely and make a thin batter adding water.
2)Heat oil in a pan and season with mustard, asefotida, urad dhal, coconut, cashew, curry leaves and green chillies .
3) simmer the flame and add the rice batter with salt, stirring continuously till it becomes thick and colour of the batter changes from white to dull white.
4)Apply oil in hand and make balls(before it cools completely) and steam it.
Serve hot with coconut chutney or spicy red chutney.
