This dish is famous in Tanjore and Kumbakonam area.I wonder why this got the name as Kadapa"!!!????But what ever be its reason this dish really tastes good. Actually i tasted this dish first in our marriage... it became the favorite of everyone . Since that day i have been searching for this recipe and i finally the recipe after 4 yrs thru a online friend.
INGREDIENTS:
Moong dhal(split green gram)- 1/4 cup
Medium sized potato-1
Carrot,Beans-1cup(optional,chopped)
Onion- 1/2 cup (Chopped)
Tomato- 1 cups(Chopped)
Cloves-2
Cardamom-2
Bay leaves-2
Green chillies-3
Salt to taste
Oil-2 tbsp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Grind to paste:
Green chillies-2
Fennel seeds-1 tsp
Coconut- 2 tbsp (opt)
Cinnamon-1 piece
Note:Instead of coconut we can use ground Khus Khus and cashew
METHOD:
1) Cook the moong dhal and the potatoes and vegetables in a pressure cooker seperately.
2) Mash potato lightly.
3)Heat a oil and add cardamom, bay leaves and cloves and fry for a few seconds.
4)Add the onion and slit green chillies and fry till onions become transperant.
5)Add tomatoes along with salt and turmeric powder and fry well until they are cooked.
6) Add the vegetables and cooked dhal along with the ground paste and 2 cups of water.
7)Let it simmer for some minutes until every thing is blended well and the gravy is slightly thickened.
Goes well with idly, dosa and also chapathi.
