We love to eat idly with this sambar and also sambar vadai tastes yummy when done with this sambar.
INGREDIENTS:
Tur dhal-1/2 cup(cooked)
Jaggery-1/2 tsp
Tamarind-1 lime size
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Samabar powder-1 or 1 1/2 tsp
Salt- to taste
Asfetodia- pinch
Mustard- seasoning
Oil-seasoning
Curry leaves few
Sambar onion-1 cup
Tomato-1 big(chopped)
POWDER:
Coriander seed-1tbs
Methi seed-1/2 tbs
Bengal gram dhal-2 tbs
Red chillies-6 or 7
Coconut-1 tbs
METHOD:
1)Dry fry coriander,methi,bengal gram red chilli and finally coconut well and powder.
2)Cook tur dhal( when 2 tbs of moong dhal is added to this it tastes even better).
3)Heat oil and season with mustard,asfetodia and curry leaves.
4)Fry onion till tender and add tomatoes and fry.
5)Add tamarind pulp ,salt,turmeric and samabar powder and cook .
6)Add cooked dhal and boil.
7)Add powdered coriander powder and boil for couple of seconds and garnish with coriander leaves.
This tastes well with Idly , Dosa and Vadai
