MILAGAI BAJJI

Chennai Marina Beach, one of the longest beach in the world is not only famous for its memorials and statues but also for its food stalls that serve yummy Millagai Bajji , sundal...umm... just the thought makes me drool.
I used to visit Maria often with friends when I was doing my PG in Madras University.Just walking along the waters eating these yummy foods...umm good old days...
Anyway.. though i don't know the exact recipe of these food vendors my version of chilli bajji[equally good :)] is here:

INGREDIENTS:(approximate measurement)
Besan(kadalai mavu)-1cup
Rice flour-1/4cup
Corn starch-1/4tsp or less(optional)
Soda bi carb- 1 pinch
Salt-to taste
Chilli powder- to taste
Jeera-1/4 tsp
Asefotida-1pinch
Long green or banana pepper
Water -to mix
Oil- to fry
STUFFING:
This is my version without potato(which they normally use).
Peanut or roasted channa dhal(pottu kadalai)-handful
Corriander powder-1/2 tsp
Jeera powder-1/2 tsp
Coconut -1tbs
Salt- taste
Tamarind- little or couple of drops of lemon juice
METHOD:
1)Slit the chilli lengthwise and remove the seeds.
2)Keep it in boiling water for couple of minutes(if you like the chilli to be tender or else skip this. I personally like to skip this .)
3)Grind coconut, peanut and other stuffing items to coarse paste.
4)Fill this stuffing inside the chilli.
5)Mix rice, besan, salt, chilli powder, asefotida, soda bi carb, jeera and corn starch(optional)with water to make a bajji batter.
6)Dip the stuffed chilli in the batter and fry in hot oil till golden brown.

Serve with sauce or chutney.
