Idly podi, also known as chutney powder can be found in every house in tamil nadu.Even though we have other side dishes like chutney, sambar we love eating at least one idly with podi....hhehehe :)
I call this a multipurpose powder.I makes things very easy for me...i make all sorts of chutneys like zucchini, tomato, ridge guard... using this powder.Just fry these vegetables in oil grind along with this powder...chutney ready.
INGREDIENTS:
Urad dhal-1 cup
Til(sesame seed)-2tbs
Salt -to taste
Red chilli- to taste
Asefotida-1/4 tsp
METHOD:
1)Fry urad,and red chilli ,till urad turns golden brown.
2)Add asefotida and Sesame and fry for couple of minutes (till sesame seed starts spluttering)
3)Add salt and powder all the ingredients to coarse power( not too coarse or fine).
Idly podi ready.Mix with Gingelly oil and serve with idly ,dosa ,uppma ,paniyaram.
