IDIYAPAM/SEVAI
Everyone is aware that South Indian Idly is a healthy breakfast item as its steamed so, easy to digest.One more such healthy tiffin item is Idiyappam or sometimes called as sevai.But both differ slightly in preparation method.As far as i know the difference is for idiyappam they use parboiled rice flour and for sevai its raw rice flour. we steam the dough first and make it to idiyappam , while in the case of sevai we make idiyappam and then steam(if i am wrong plz do correct me).Any way... the point is... its healthy easily digestable food for kids and everyone in general.
INGREDIENTS:(measurements are approximate)
Rice flour
Water- enough to make dough of chapathi dough consistency
Salt
METHOD:
1)Boil water and mix it with rice flour mixed with water and 1 tsp oil(which is optional)
2)Using murukku maker squeeze it on idly making plates and steam for couple of minutes.
3)Serve hot with stew or make variety sevai like lemon sevai ,vegetable or tomato sevai and serve with any side dish.
Note: For Idiyappam mix rice with water and make balls and steam it first then squeeze them using idiyappa making machine(as it would be hard to do using murukku maker.Will try to get the photo of this machine when i go to India)
NOTE:Make Lemon sevai and tomato-Same as lemon rice and tomato rice.
