Baklava... name first sounded funny....but tastes yummy.Its such a calorie rich middle east pastry item.If You are calorie conscious or health conscious you will really avoid it. But hey....Life time is once and only humans can taste so many variety... so.... why not try these things once in a while.....
One of my neighbour Kavitha, she is a excellent cook, she is the one who told me about banana walnut cake / bread.She once gave me this dish.OMG... it was soooo tasty. She said it was a very simple recipe. But then i forgot to ask her about the recipe.All of a sudden i had the craving for this and i found the recipe in all recipes dot com.Though i tried it with couple of changes(since i did not have some of the ingredient that was mentioned)it tasted the same as what my neighbour gave :D
1)Preheat the oven to 350 degree.
2)Butter the pan .place a sheet of phyllo and butter then repeat with another sheet.We have to repeat this for 8 sheets(but i did only 5).
3)Spread the nuts liberally .
4)Place 2-3 more sheets(buttered)on top and again spread the nuts.
5)Place again 8 sheets.
6)Cut to desired shape using sharp knife.
7)Bake for about 40 minutes.
8)Meanwhile mix honey and water and heat it to mix well.
9)Remove baklava from oven and pour this honey mixture over it .
10)Let it cool.
MY EXPERIENCE: I guess i should have kept more layers of phyllo sheet.Thaw the sheets before using.Keep them covered with damp cloth to avoid drying of the sheets.I used mixed nuts.
