GLOSSARY OF INDIAN VEGETABLES AND SPICES










When I came to US it was very difficult for me to find some of the spices in super market and sometimes when the cashier asked me what the vegetable was it was very difficult.... all i knew was the indian name ...so here are some of the common names of some of the indian spices and vegetables that we get here....








SPICES
Spices are used as not only food additives for the purpose of flavoring but also sometimes they are used as preservative and also as medicine in India.For example Turmeric, which is a natural preservative, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial. and another example is Cinnamon,it not only has a pleasant fragrance and aromatic taste but it also stops vomiting and nausea, relieves flatulence and diarrhoea .
